Polokwane Netball Academy to promote social cohesion

The programmes are designed to equip players with skills and knowledge to take their game to the next level.

POLOKWANE – To promote social cohesion, talent identification and promotion of elite athletes, Kgothatso Dikobo and Manthoa Phihlela from Seshego recently started the Polokwane Netball Academy.

“The idea of starting the academy emerged in 2020, but due to the pandemic the planning got delayed somewhat. We aim to develop netball and sport in Polokwane. We use this academy as a means to drive the message across to all individuals and eradicate community ills,” Dikobo said.

As a qualified sports management coach in the public and private sector, Dikobo added that they believe that any organisation or business name should be informative so that customers know immediately what your business is about, and from there the name, Polokwane Netball Academy.

Within the academy, the women target players aged eight to 19 years of age.

“We also cater for players who need extra training sessions, and we host one-on-one sessions. The programmes are designed to equip players with skills and knowledge to take their game to the next level,” Phihlela said.

Dikobo concluded that at the moment, the main focus is to shape players to improve their skills and be the best at their game.

“We will eventually affiliate and participate under the Local Netball Association (LNA) to test players’ skills.”

Polokwane Netball Academy after-school sessions take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 16:30-18:00 at the Polokwane Korfbal Courts in Dorp Street. To join, you can contact 083 824 9844 / 072 288 5646 or 076 075 1497, or send an e-mail to info.polokwanenetballacademy@gmail.com.
