LIMPOPO – Hard work and dedication have propelled soccer talent Mashudu ‘Augreo’ Tshiovhe to national recognition. The 17-year-old midfielder from Tshikhwani village, Sinthumule area, has been selected to represent the South African u/17 team.

Tshiovhe, who plays for Ramantsha Blackpool FC, was a key player in the Safa Vhembe Hollywood Bet League, helping his team secure a second-place finish in Stream E 2 for the 2023/24 soccer season.

The national u/17 team will face Lesotho on August 16 and 18, followed by a match against Rwanda on August 21, as part of their preparation for the 2024 u/17 Cosafa Championship, scheduled for December.

In a recent interview, Tshiovhe expressed his excitement and determination to make a significant impact, with aspirations of becoming a regular member of the national squad.

Reflecting on his journey, Tshiovhe shared his passion for football, which began in his youth.

“I used to play with older boys, and soccer was their sport of choice,” he recalled.

Despite not anticipating the call-up, Tshiovhe is grateful for the opportunity and eager to learn and grow with the national team.

“I’m really excited and determined to make the most of this chance. The first person I shared the news with was my team chairman, Rendani Mutheiwana, who has always encouraged me to stay fit and perform well. I have to seize this opportunity,” he said.

Tshiovhe said it is important for the youth to participate in sport, and advocating for a healthy lifestyle over substance abuse.

“I encourage all young people to engage in sport. It promotes a healthy lifestyle and helps in socialising with others, rather than turning to alcohol and smoking.”

Rendani Mutheiwana, the chairperson of Ramantsha Blackpool FC, praised Tshiovhe’s achievement as a significant honour for the team, his family, SAFA Vhembe, and the entire community.
