Westenburg soccer star signs with BSI Football Academy
Dreams became reality for Westenburg’s Allister Jacobs, who earned a full bursary to train at the prestigious BSI Football Academy.
POLOKWANE – “Little did I know when I laced up my first pair of soccer boots at the age of seven, that I would get a full bursary to train at an internationally recognised soccer academy,” said Allister Jacobs (24) who was signed by Balderstone Sports Institute (BSI) Football Academy on October 15.
Allister, from Westenburg, saw the online post about BSI trials and knew he had to seize the opportunity.
“When I got in, I was so excited, words cannot describe it,” he said. Being selected, he added, is an amazing opportunity that could open doors internationally. “Should this happen, it would be my biggest dream come true, as I have always hoped to play for FC Barcelona.”
His mom, Rosy, expressed pride and gratitude.
“It’s a privilege for him to train at BSI, where management from big soccer teams can see him. On the field, Allister becomes a different person because of his love for the sport,” she said.
She encouraged him to remain humble and reminded youth to pursue their dreams relentlessly while prioritising education. She also highlighted his persistence: “He tried several times for BSI and never gave up. Don’t be discouraged – follow your heart, work hard, and take opportunities when they come,” Rosy said.
Allister, who has played striker, winger, and centre back, said: “Soccer is my passion. I love being on the field and showing my talent. One challenge is facing bigger players, but practice has built my confidence.” He advised aspiring players to be consistent, work hard, and never give up. “After a tough loss, I stay motivated by training harder and improving my game.”

Westenburg residents praised his dedication: “Come sun or rain, he would be at the field practising. His discipline and hard work have paid off. He is a role model for our youth, proof that hard work leads to success.”
Enziwe Maphosa, BSI Football Academy team manager, described Allister as mature, intelligent, and composed, with excellent game awareness and leadership qualities.
“Allister embodies the values of leadership, coachability, commitment, and a positive attitude. He is the perfect example for our academy and first team,” said Maphosa.
