Chiefs claim 5th consecutive win

Kaizer Chiefs thrash Magesi 4-1 in Polokwane but are held to a goalless draw by Polokwane City days later at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

POLOKWANE – Kaizer Chiefs kept their hot streak alive before hitting a bump, as two matches in the city delivered both excitement and frustration within a few days.

The run began with a dominant display against Magesi FC at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium on April 15.

Chiefs, commonly known as Amakhosi, were in full control as they cruised to a 4-1 victory, marking their fifth consecutive win in the Betway Premiership.

Goals from Flavio Silva, Wandile Duba, Mduduzi Shabalala and Khanyisa Mayo highlighted some confidence and attacking intent. Although Magesi showed promise at times, their missed chances proved costly.

The win kept Amakhosi in third place on the standings, building momentum as the season edges closer to its conclusion.

Days later, however, that momentum slowed. Facing Polokwane City at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium last Saturday, Chiefs were unable to find their scoring touch and were held to a goalless draw.

The match proved tighter, with City difficult to break down and competitive throughout. Amakhosi nearly struck within the opening minute through Glody Lilepo, but luck was not on their side.

As the game progressed, City grew into the contest and created better scoring opportunities, forcing goalkeeper Brandon Petersen into making some key saves.

Despite late efforts, Amakhosi could not convert their chances. The draw dealt a blow to Chiefs’ hopes of climbing higher in the standings and strengthening their push for CAF Champions League qualification.

Chiefs remain in third position and are set to face Orlando Pirates in the much-anticipated Soweto Derby on Sunday at Orlando Stadium.

Meanwhile, Magesi will take on TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on the same day, while Polokwane City host Stellenbosch at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
