MISS Limpopo 2014 finalist, Kholofelo “Sweet Mama” Lekganyane opened her heart to Hlahlaganya Drop-in Centre at Mankweng Hlahlahanya village on Friday, where she donated 16 brand new shirts.
The shirts were donated to children at the centre who are involved in various extra-mural activities such as gumboot dancing, performing plays and singing in a choir.
Kholofelo says she acquired sponsors for the shirts as the children performed in competitions and sometimes did not make it due to not having proper uniforms.
“All the children at the centre are from poor backgrounds, which makes it difficult for them to buy uniforms.
Despite not having uniforms, they still persevere and do not show signs of giving up on their dreams.
I feel it is important to know you have played a role in developing others, especially those who are vulnerable,” Kholofelo says.
She says the initiative was a way of moulding and motivating the children to focus more on their dreams and talents.
“The children are very talented and as they go around performing at competitions, one day their talent will be spotted by great South African producers.
“A lot of times we undermine and underestimate what these underprivileged children can do merely because they have not been to performing schools, but great talent is always spotted in the rural areas,” Kholofelo says.
She says she always believes that children are the future generation and great leaders of tomorrow so if they are motivated their dreams can be realised.
The centre manager, Malebo Mamabolo could not hide her excitement when accepting the goodies on behalf of the children.
She also encouraged other young women to learn from Kholofelo.
