1st annual Lim music awards launch in city

THE annual Limpopo music awards were introduced to the media by MPK Sound Production and Entertainment at Tiveka Game Lodge outside Polokwane on Friday.

MPK chief executive officer, Matimba Mabunda, said the awards were to acknowledge people in the music industry, who gave selflessly of themselves.

“We aim to encourage those gifted singers and musicians who used their own funds in recording studios in order to bring their soul-soothing sounds to music lovers,” Mabunda explained.

He said MPK would tour to each district of the province to give everyone the opportunity to enter, and to meet the artists. “Artists will be chosen based on their creativity and quality of their work. We want to recognise the potential of artists. We want to reach as many local artists as we can,” he said.

Byron Rikhotso, public relations officer for Swilombe Music Association, and a stakeholder, said local artists needed recognition.

“We have almost 185 local artists who will be part of the Limpopo annual music awards in various categories. We invite more local artists to join us. We are planning to host a huge music festival to promote local artists,” Rikhotso said.
