7 years as kings and queens of airwaves

POLOKWANE  – POPULAR Limpopo radio station, Capricorn FM, celebrated their seventh birthday last Wednesday at the station’s studios in Bendor, Polokwane.

Managing director, Cyril Chetty, spoke at the celebration and said it seemed like only yesterday when they launched the radio station.

“Over the past seven years we were blessed. We had fun, we experienced happy moments, we cried, we celebrated, we entertained, we informed, we educated and we changed lives.

“We also cared for the less fortunate and, most importantly, we remained Limpopo’s hottest station,” he said.

Chetty said his wish for the station was to continue on the successful path it started out on.

“We believe that we have changed the mindset of the province.

“We have taken over the airwaves in the pro-vince and when residents of Limpopo think about radio, they think Capricorn FM. We are trend setters and an inspiration to the people,” he said.

He told Express that Capricorn FM ran a competition to celebrate their seventh anniversary and six listeners each won R10 000, while one listener won the grand prize of R50 000.

Mapula Mvubu, an IT student at the Tshwane University of Technology, won the grand prize and thanked Capricorn FM for their generosity.

“I dedicate this prize to my grandmother who passed away last week.

“I will use this money to invest in my education and pay for my studies,” Mvubu said.

Tsakani Muhlari, the station’s marketing manager, said last Wednesday’s birthday celebration was a beautiful trip down memory lane.

“We want to thank our listeners for their loyalty over the past seven years.

“We have shown a lot of growth since the station was launched in 2006 and we are grateful to have listeners who believed in us from the very first day when we opened our studio,” Muhlari said.
