POLOKWANE – The ever popular Ebenezer Mile open water swimming event will take place at the picturesque Ebenezer dam outside Haenertsburg on March 21.
The Ebenezer Mile keeps enticing swimmers year after year and this open water event just gets better every year, according to some of the swimmers.
Past swimmers and supporters rate the efficient organisation, the friendliness of the local residents, the beautiful surroundings and pristine water as among the best in the country.
Rotary Haenertsburg has been organising this event for the past 13 years, with the fantastic support of large national corporate sponsors and many smaller local companies and organisations alike.
They have evolved the management of this event into a professional and slick operation over the years and use the latest timing methods.
This is an enjoyable festive fun day for the whole family in the great outdoors.
There are also a variety of food stalls, a beer tent and a great atmosphere at the venue of the Mountain Yacht Club on the Ebenezer Dam near Haenertsburg.
The 1 600 m open water swim and the 3 000 m open water swim attracts swimmers who are fiercely competitive and who participate in the national open water swimming circuit events regularly.
While the competitive swimmers challenge themselves, the majority of swimmers come to swim for the fun of it. They choose the mile or the easy 500 m fun course. Children of all ages can take part and the first event starts at 11:00.
Online entries for the mile and 3 000 m swimming events cost R115 per person while registration, that will take place on the day, costs R130 per swimmer. The 500 m swim costs R80 per swimmer.
A family discount is offered at R105 per swimmer when three or more family members enter the event.
