Master of hair and soulful music

LUCAS Rapetsoa (40) from Seshego zone 1 is a hairdresser by day and a club DJ by night.

SESHEGO – LUCAS Rapetsoa (40) from Seshego zone 1 is a hairdresser by day and a club DJ by night.

Known for his mixing skills of RnB and soul music, DJ Mluka, as Lucas is popularly known, says his love for music inspired him to become a DJ.

“I started DJing in 1999 using cassettes until former Capricorn FM presenter DJ Shandu introduced me to CDJ-decks. We all have songs that we know help us through difficult times. I was truly inspired by the late Nobel Ratema from Hammanskraal and Eddie Zondi from Metro FM. I grew up listening to RnB and soul music on the former Bop TV and Ratema was my mentor. He was so patient with me. He told me that before I can call myself a DJ, I must be able to entertain the crowd and know what people want,” says Mluka.

He is a resident DJ at one of the pubs in Seshego zone 2 and wishes to share the stage with the likes of Wilson B Nkosi and Paul Mtirara from Metro FM one day.

Explaining his other talent, Mluka said he was introduced to the hair and beauty industry in Pretoria in 1997.

“When I relocated to Seshego, I worked at different salons. I believe that hairdressing is an art form and it requires focus. I am proud that I am self-employed and my wish is to grow the business and maybe own a hair academy where I will be able to offer lessons to people who are interested in becoming hair dressers,” he says.
