Rap lyrics from poetry

WHAT started out as a book of poetry, turned into a new passion for Thembuluwo "Faceboy" Ramanugu when he realised that his true love was music.

THOHOYANDOU – WHAT started out as a book of poetry, turned into a new passion for Thembuluwo “Faceboy” Ramanugu when he realised that his true love was music.

“I converted my poetry into songs and developed my talent while I learned to produce music,” he told Express.

The 23-year-old Thohoyandou resident said he started rapping in high school, but usually just imitated other rappers and covered their songs.

Faceboy said he matured through the years and now he writes his own lyrics.

“Music provides me with a platform to tell people my stories, stories that they can relate to. It also gives me the opportunity to influence my target audience, the younger generation. I rap about the things that matter to them, but also cater for older people,” he said.

He said he learned a lot from the music industry and collaborated with local artists such as Mizo Phyll, Percy Mukwevho and Bellafonte. He said these experiences made him grow as an artist.

Faceboy said he wanted to become a successful artist and entertain people because he wanted to make his fans happy. He said he was working on an extended play (EP) album that would be released soon.

The EP would include his single Vha Litsheni featuring Makadzi, which was released this month.

He said it would be followed by a mix tape that he wanted to dedicate to his fans and everyone who have supported his career thus far.

Faceboy said not only does he rap, but he also produces his own music.

“In this industry you need money to make money. Sometimes you can be dedicated and talented but without money there are challenges such as not finding promoters. However, passion will keep you going.

“I haven’t reach my potential yet, but I know I will get there eventually,” he said.
