LIMPOPO – THE entertainment fraternity of Limpopo is getting ready for the launch of the first annual provincial film, arts, music and entertainment awards, the Fame SA Awards, at Sun Meropa, Polokwane on Friday.
Highlights of the awards ceremony will include performances by popular reggae artist, Colbert Mukwevho and kwaito outfit, Sido and Manana.
Fame SA Awards organiser, Matodzi Makananisa, said the awards were meant to recognise the hard work and dedication of Limpopo entertainers over the years and also to launch local talent.
He said the awards were open to all Limpopo-born artists who were professionally involved in the film, arts, music and entertainment industry in and outside Limpopo.
He added that at the official launch, the rules and requirements would be explained at a later date.
“We have already sent e-mails and made a public announcement inviting all artists.
“We will use this platform to appeal to them to assist in spreading the word about the awards before we launch an intensive marketing campaign.
“We decided on the awards because Limpopo has been overlooked for a long time. We have a lot of talent but it is never recognised.
“With these awards, we want to show the country that Limpopo has talent and also to encourage our artists to keep the fires burning,” he said.
The official awards nominations take place on April 4 and the event takes place on May 2 at the Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane.
There will be several categories in which to enter including music, television, radio, comedy, sports and some special categories such as creative of the year and philanthropist of the year.
