Marula Festival ends with a bang

PHALABORWA – POPULAR Xitsonga musician, Joe Xirimane left party-goers in awe during the Marula Jazz and Gospel Festival in Phalaborwa on Saturday.
The weekend festivities included the Marula fun walk, Marula Festival Golf Challenge and the Marula Jazz and Gospel Festival. The line-up at the music festival included Oliver Mtukuzdi, Kanda Bongoman, Bhudaza, Jimmy Dludlu, Selaelo Selota, General Muzka, Johnas Gwangwa, Dr Thomas Chauke, Malatjie and Don Laka.
According to the MEC for economic development, environment and tourism, Seaparo Sekoati, the department also hosted a workshop for local musicians, which was conducted by South African DJ, Oscar “Oskido” Mdlongwa and other industry leaders.
He said the workshop formed part of the department’s legacy project.
“The workshop aimed to empower local artists on how to make it in the industry, and 10 artists were selected from the workshop to perform during the Marula Jazz and Gospel Festival,” said Sekoati.
He said the festival was preceded by a street parade and carnival.
