THOHOYANDOU – REPLAY Dance Crew ZA is a group of three dancers from Shayandima village.
Led by self taught choreographer, dancer and scriptwriter, Tshimangadzo Ratshilumela (22), the trio is completed by Emmanuel Ratshilumela (19) and Marius Coetzee (19).
Tshimangadzo developed a passion for dancing while he was a karate student.
He says he was also inspired by the dance movie, Stomp the Yard.
“We want to become one of the best performing groups in the world with our unique style of dance. We also want to build a dance academy. We would like to inspire people in Limpopo to consider dancing as a career,” says Tshimangadzo.
He says anyone can achieve success, even those from poor backgrounds, but only if they work hard.
“We have entered many dancing competitions such as the Venda Hood Dance competition, the Big Six dance competition and the SM Media dance competition. We have been victorious in all of these competitions. In total we have won more than 30 dance competitions.
“We are the best dancers in Limpopo. We have been selected to perform at the SA Indies Music Week at Gold Reef City in April. The mere fact that we were selected to be part of this event is an achievement. It is proof that people appreciate what we do,” he says.
Tshimangadzo says they are inspired by the Quest Crew, Jabawookies and 410.
“We want to be known all over the world. We want to expand into movies and theatre,” he says.
He advises young people to follow their dreams.
“Never give up even if it gets hard. We give thanks to all our fans and we appreciate their support, it means lot to us. We perform for them and we gain strength from knowing they like what we do.”
