POLOKWANE – POLOKWANE gospel artist, Mokgadi Sebati and her band are optimistic that they will make Limpopo proud during the second Independent National Gospel Music Awards (Ingoma), which will be held in Pretoria on May 16.
Sebati’s hit song, Kebo Meno Masue, won the Best Video Award at last year’s Ingoma Awards.
The talented singer says winning last year’s award boosted her confidence.
“I have since composed a lot of catchy gospel songs and my songs heal the sick. I dream of being a nominee in the SABC Crown Gospel Awards and the South African Traditional Music Awards,” she says.
Dan Raseluma, the founder of the Ingoma Awards, says the event serves as the face and voice of upcoming and independent gospel musicians.
He says nominations are now open and will close on March 13.
“Artists can visit www.ingomasa.co.za for more information or to download nomination forms,” he says.
Raseluma says the awards are dedicated to exposing, promoting and celebrating new talent through recognition.
“The good thing is that the Ingoma Awards recognise those who have never been recognised in the music industry before.
“At last year’s award ceremony, we had 20 categories, and as a symbol of growth, we have increased the number of categories to 33 this year, which include best recording studio, best street promoting artist and best circular artist gospel song,” he says.
