Virginia has her eye on the big prize

POLOKWANE – On screen she plays a sassy young woman who looks down on other people, but in real life she is a smart young woman who comes from humble beginnings.
Virginia Mabena is an actress who grew up in Botlokwa. She has always had dreams of making it big as an actress. The 29-year-old says even from an early age she knew where she wanted to end up. Currently she is the lead actress in a Sepedi film called Dikeledi. She plays the role of Dikeledi, a beautiful, sexy and arrogant young woman who thinks that other people are beneath her.
She explains what the experience was like for her. “It was not like the first two films that I did before this one. It was quiet challenging and helped me to grow.
“At first I thought acting was very simple. Maybe it was because I was not a leading actor. Now I have realised that it is not simple but it can be so good if you know your script very well. It is very important as an actor to rehearse your script and know what is expected of you when shooting a film,” Mabena explains.
She says in the long run she wants to end up on the country’s most popular soapies such as Generations and Muvhango. She says she also wants to continue to shoot films with Maxisky Productions.
She also enjoys singing and modelling, but her main focus will always be acting. Her advice to other young people who want to follow in her footsteps is very simple.
“Always believe in yourself. Never give up. Remember the Bible says: If you believe you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. Only have faith, believe and have hope (Matthew 7:7),” she concludes.
