According to Rotten Tomatoes, which is a well-known website devoted to film reviews and news, the following movies made the top 10 movies of 2015:

1. Mad Max: Fury Road

Starring: Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron

A total of 305 reviews gave the film an impressive 97% rating, with critics stating: “with exhilarating action and a surprising amount of narrative heft, Mad Max: Fury Road brings George Miller’s post-apocalyptic franchise roaring vigorously back to life”.

2. Inside Out

Starring: Amy Poehler and Phyllis Smith

A total of 277 reviews gave the film a 98% ratting, with critics stating: “inventive, gorgeously animated, and powerfully moving, Inside Out is another outstanding addition to the Pixar library of modern animated classics”.

3. Selma

Starring: Dawid Oyelowo and Oprah Winfrey

A total of 213 reviews gave the film a massive 99% rating, with critics stating: “fueled by a gripping performance from David Oyelowo, Selma draws inspiration and dramatic power from the life and death of Martin Luther King, Jr. but doesn’t ignore how far we remain from the ideals his work embodied”.

4. Shaun the Sheep

Starring: Justin Fletcher and Omid Djalili

A total of 140 reviews gave the film a 99% rating, with critics stating: “warm, funny, and brilliantly animated, Shaun the Sheep is yet another stop-motion jewel in Aardman’s family-friendly crown”.

5. Brooklyn

Starring: Saoirse Ronan and Domhnall Gleeson

A total of 135 reviews gave the film a 99% rating, with critics stating: “Brooklyn buttresses outstanding performances from Saoirse Ronan and Emory Cohen with a rich period drama that tugs at the heartstrings as deftly as it satisfies the mind”.

6. The Martian

Starring: Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain

A total of 268 reviews gave the film a 93% rating, with critics stating: “smart, thrilling, and surprisingly funny, The Martian offers a faithful adaptation of the bestselling book that brings out the best in leading man Matt Damon and director Ridley Scott”.

7. It Follows

Starring: Maika Monroe and Keir Gilchrist

A total of 195 reviews gave the film a 96% rating, with critics stating “smart, original, and above all terrifying, It Follows is the rare modern horror film that works on multiple levels and leaves a lingering sting”.

8. Paddington

Starring: Nicole Kidman and Hugh Bonneville

A total of 128 reviews gave the film a 98% rating, with critics stating: “Paddington brings a beloved children’s character into the 21st century without sacrificing his essential charm, delivering a family-friendly adventure as irresistibly cuddly as its star”.

9. Spotlight

Starring: Mark Ruffalo and Micheal Keaton

A total of 148 reviews gave the film a 97% rating, with critics stating: “Spotlight gracefully handles the lurid details of its fact-based story while resisting the temptation to lionize its heroes, resulting in a drama that honors the audience as well as its real-life subjects”.

10. Timbuktu

Starring: Toulou Kiki and Fatoumata Diawara

A total of 92 reviews gave the film a 99% rating, with critics stating: “gracefully assembled and ultimately disquieting, Timbuktu is a timely film with a powerful message”.
