The voice of local artists

"The Limpopo Artist Movement is the voice of the local artists, we want to help them fight for the opportunities they deserve and see them grow into the stars they were born to be."

LIMPOPO – These are the inspiring words of Mphoza Mashabela, Chairperson of the Limpopo Artist Movement.

The Limpopo Artist Movement was formed in November during the Mapungubi,we Festival in Polokane, when it was brought to Mashabela’s attention that local artists are not invited to be part of the festival.

Mashabela said: “I took this matter up with the MEC of Arts and Culture and after we raised our voices an agreement was made that 20 local artists will perform at the festival.”

“Unfortunately during the recent popular Mapungubwe Festival held in Phalaborwa, we struggled again with the same situation where local artists were not invited to perform.”

Mashabela said the Limpopo Artist Movement approached the Department of Economic Development and Tourism with regards to the situation. He further said that he was disappointed that despite the fact that they fought for the local artists only a handful were given the opportunity to perform at the festival.

Mashabela invites all artists from different cultures to join this inspiring movement.

“We will not give up on these artists, this is my passion and I want to lead by example and I am determined to take this struggle forward,” Mashabela strongly concluded.
