Photographer captures the imagination through lens

Akani Malungana (19) is a young man with a bright future

LIMPOPO – Malungana, from N’wa Marhanga outside Giyani, is a self-taught photographer and graphic designer, and the founder of A-images.

He explains that A-images is a mobile photography studio that specialises in indoor, outdoor and portfolio photography. The company is doing so well that it employs six people who work closely with him.

Malungana says he had the wisdom to employ friends and these include Mafiri Matuludi as chief financial officer, as well as Gomolemo Nkwana as operations manager. Besides being his friends and colleagues, the duo are also his course mates at the University of Johannesburg, where Malungana is a second-year management services student.

The studio offers practical work experience to enhance the theory the course offers. Though young, the very creative and hardworking Malungana has already carved out a name for himself and has the same level of drive and ambition of his brother, DJ Gami whose albums are topping the charts and winning awards.

Malungana is also the brother of the reigning Miss Giyani 2015, Khanyisa Malungana.

He has been in the fortunate position of being entrusted with working on the brands of his siblings.

He works on his sister’s portfolio and is the preferred photographer of DJ Gami and the brand manager of his fashion and lifestyle label, Kate Chauke, who runs the prestigious K8 Lukz Forte modelling agency.

A-images also employs four brand ambassadors, which include beauty queens Khanyisa and Tshepang Ralekgale, who form an integral part of the company.

Malungana and his team were hard hit recently by the theft of his laptop, which contained a lot of their previous work, pending projects, as well as expensive software they used to work more effectively.

“The incident was an unfortunate one and it left a bitter taste in our mouths. The experience will not stop us from producing the quality work we do. We’ll bounce back even stronger and tell the creative stories with images that only we can,” promised Malungana.
