Model takes her career to an all new height
For Karabo Letoya Lepheane, being a model was not part of her initial career plans
POLOKWANE – The bubbly 19-year-old from Ladanna in Polokwane says it was her family and friends who suggested and encouraged her to pursue a modelling career.
Letoya, as she is known in the industry, says she only started to enter beauty pageants when she was in high school.
“I was frequently told that I have a great body and could be a model. Being the shy, reserved person I was, I quickly dismissed that idea because I could not imagine myself in front of the camera or walking the runway,” she explains.
The North West-born sweetheart who moved to Polokwane in 2009 with her family, says after winning a few local pageants, somehow she knew she was just a natural and that’s how her modelling career started.
She says she is currently modelling for Azui Media Productions and also entered the Face of Polokwane pageant which she was voted for by the public on social media. She says being a part of the pageant gave her a lot of confidence as a model and has made her realise just how talented she is.
“Modelling is more than just posing in front of the camera. I enjoy the pleasure of changing into different characters depending on the scene of the shoot,” she says.
Letoya says she plans to study fashion design next year as she hopes to own her own boutique one day. “I love fashion. I always alter my clothes to suit my personality and my body type,” she gushes.
The sassy model says when she is not in front of the camera or strutting her stuff on the runway, she likes to spend time outdoors with friends. “It gives me an opportunity to experience new things while I interact with different people.”
She says she is more someone who likes to keep up with trends instead of a fashion diva and that she is a big fan of crop tops and high waist pants. She says some accessories she can’t leave the house without include sunglasses and jewellery. “Jewellery has a way of turning a dull outfit into something luxurious,” she explains.
She says she prefers wedges to high heels because they are more comfortable but still as elegant.
