It’s lights, camera and action for ‘Kwaito’
Humble beginnings did not keep Clement Maosa from realising his dream of becoming a renowned actor
POLOKWANE – Clement, who grew up in Bochum Ga-Ramotsha village, is making a name for himself in the entertainment industry.
Maosa plays the role of Zamokuhle “Kwaito” Seakamela on SABC 1’s drama, Skeem Saam, and he made his TV debut while he was still a law student at the University of Limpopo.
“I’ve had a passion for acting for a long time, but my parents told me to study law or medicine; that is how I ended up studying towards an LLB degree. During my fourth year at university, I got the opportunity to act on Skeem Saam and I am now a professional actor,” Clement explains.
Clement says people’s expectation of what it means to be famous is not accurate. “You are expected to live a luxurious lifestyle,” he says, which is not always possible.
“My personal life is always personal I don’t really know what fame is. There is nothing to balance between fame and my personal life. I am just living my life the way I was taught. I am still the same person, I still have respect for others. When I am in public, I have to carry myself in a certain way because people look to me as an example.
He says right now he is just focusing on acting because he has an LLB degree, but he doesn’t want to practice.
“It’s difficult to do other jobs when you are acting full time because when you’re not at work you have to study your lines for the next day,” he explains.
He concludes by saying: “I have been inspired by people like Sello Maake ka Ncube and Patric Shai, knowing how far they’ve come motivates me to give my job my all and also become successful in the industry.”
