Skeem Saam actress opens up about life in spotlight
She was so flustered that she couldn't eat for a whole day after being told that she got the role she auditioned for
POLOKWANE – Local actress, Oratile Maitisa (17), best known for her role as Eunice Nkadimeng on the SABC soapie, Skeem Saam, says it takes dedication and perseverance to excel and get recognised in the acting industry.
Oratile auditioned for Skeem Saam in 2010, but made her debut appearance on the second season of the soapie in 2013.
She says she was so flustered that she couldn’t eat for a whole day after being told that she got the role she auditioned for.
“I thought I was dreaming when I received a phone call from the Skeem Saam producers. The feeling was just amazing. I was not ready for the auditions, but my brother insisted that I should try my luck,” says Oratile.
She says she wanted to study industrial psychology after completing high school, but everything changed when she landed the role on Skeem Saam. She plans to further her studies in acting next year because she wants to become a full time actress.
“I will study industrial psychology after getting my acting degree. Acting is in my blood and I want to do it full-time. It was not an easy decision to rule out industrial psychology because I love both fields. My wish is to act for a soapie based on a true life story,” she says.
She says people should learn to adapt to situations and take each day as it comes as life does not have a formula. “People should never forget to pray each day. I am a Christian and I believe that everything is possible through God,” she explains.
Asked about her take on celebrities who use drugs, Oratile says actors are human and thus they have weaknesses and people should not judge them too harshly. “I am glad that I grew up in the ghetto. It taught me a lot of things and this made me develop a sharp eye to be able to distinguish right from wrong,” says Oratile.
