Seshego Gospel Choir flies Lim flag high

The Seshego Gospel Choir is flying the flag high for Limpopo

POLOKWANE – The choir performed at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown and went on to be the first clap and tap choir in the history of the festival.

The choir was created by Maria Bongwe in 2012 and was later joined by Rosina Mokgaphane. The group now boasts 65 members who are students and learners from schools and colleges in the Polokwane area.

According to Bongwe, the choir manager, they are honoured to perform on such a grand stage.

“There are 400 acts performing in a span of two weeks, this includes drama, orchestra, singing and other art mediums. We are truly blessed to be invited for the second time. The first time we performed was last year and we did extremely well hence we were called back,” Bongwe explains.

She said she started the choir to develop young people.

“For me it was a spiritual calling. My main aim was to develop the skills of the youth and make them better performers. I could see that they had talent, but they needed someone to coach them,” Bongwe continued.

She said they could have never imagined that they would do this well, especially on a national platform. “We got a standing ovation, that is how well we did. We didn’t imagine that we would be where we are now, but we have worked extremely hard and have been truly blessed.”
