Get your bike ready before taking it for the long ride
According to Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club President, Sarel Nong, there are a few things you need to check before you take your bike out on the road.
POLOKWANE – People are packing away their winter gear as the temperature starts to rise, an indication that winter is coming to an end and spring is around the corner.
Many bikers are dusting off their bikes in preparation for long rides. If you prepared your motorcycle for the winter by adding fuel stabiliser and either removing your battery or adding a slow charger, then your bike should come to life without too much trouble.
According to Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club President, Sarel Nong, there are a few more things you need to check before you take your bike out on the road. “Once you have your bike running, it is a good time to give it a photo mechanical inspection to make sure that it is safe to ride,” says Nong.
He says going over the bike might take some time but it is important to at least look at some of the parts to make sure that first ride is one that is enjoyable and safe.
Here are some of the things you must check before you ride:
1. Fuel: It is best to get a fresh tank of fuel after a long, cold winter.
2. Tyres: Your tyres can deflate and crack while stored away so it is important to check that they are properly inflated.
3. Fluids: Check your oil antifreeze and bike fluids.
He adds that the best way to make sure your first ride in a long time is safe is to wear the right protective gear. “Never compromise on your safety and always be alert,” he advises.
