The many faces of Milicent Makhado

Makhado was born in Madombidzha, a small village outside Louis Trichardt

South African actress, Millicent Makhado, best known for her role as Agnes Mukwevho, a character she played for six years on SABC 2’s popular soapie Muvhango says television is her life.

Makhado was born in Madombidzha, a small village outside Louis Trichardt in Limpopo and says moving from Limpopo to Gauteng has allowed her to learn different languages and engage with various cultures.

“Acting comes naturally to me, it was fun being part of the Muvhango cast and production. The show is quite popular, with a viewership of more than 4,2 million,” she tells CV.

She says the character of Agnes led to her becoming one of the most recognised and respected actors in South Africa and that means a lot to her.

“Acting is who I am, I love playing different roles and exploring with different characters, you get to learn a lot,” says Makhado.

The talented actress is currently back on the set of etv’s Scandal where she plays the role of a young woman named Pretty and is shooting the second season of the SABC 2 drama, Thola.

“I have a great support system at home and I try not to mix work with family life. I’m great at multi-tasking,” she says.

Makhado also features in the film, Man In Crisis, where she plays a young mother in an abusive relationship. According to Makhado, the role is challenging but also very rewarding.

“Man In Crisis is a proudly South African production that crosses cultural lines. The film will air in the US before coming to South Africa,” says Makhado.

The prominent voice-over artist is featured on a number of TV and radio advertisements.

“I have a passion for women and children and I am actively involved in awareness campaigns, including the 16 Days of Activism Against Women and Children Abuse campaign,” she says proudly. She is not only a successful actress with a diploma in speech and drama, she is also a mother to a beautiful daughter.

Makhado has appeared in numerous TV programmes and sees herself doing more films in the future.
