Joey is not afraid to stand out in a crowd

Joey Williams, a teacher at Westenburg Secondary School, has a unique style.

POLOKWANE – It is nigh impossible not to notice his unique style and BONUS had the opportunity to talk to him about his style and love for fashion.

“I believe one’s style reveals so much about your character and personality and that is why I invest so much in my look,” he explains. He says he loves bright colours and is definitely not afraid to stand out in a crowd. “I am a big fan of colour blocking. I can mix and match any colour and give the outfit my unique signature of class.”

The 53-year-old says he is most comfortable in formal clothes, especially suits. He has a collection of over 20 suits, all in bright colours.

“I love matching my suits with hats, sometimes colour blocking shoes and a fancy belt,” he adds.

Williams says he has over 40 pairs of shoes in his collection with colours ranging from red to black and almost every colour in-between. His most important piece of fashion advice is to always match your belt with your shoes as it rounds off the ensemble and shows how organised and neat you are.

The family man and father of three says although he wears his suits on occasions, on a typical day he wears semi-formal clothes.

“My normal everyday look is nice jeans, T-shirt or a shirt and a neat pair of shoes.”

He likes to wear funky and playful clothes on occasions and Casual Day is the perfect opportunity to give this style aficionado wings.

Williams says he loves his Mathanda kitchen outfit which he has had for over two decades. “I was raised in the townships and that culture is a part of my identity. I make sure it comes to play every now and then when I rock my All Stars, Jack Parcels, and Mathanda kitchen.”

He says he prefers shopping in boutiques because most of the clothes are limited edition unlike in retail stores where the same clothes are sold in larger quantities.

“I don’t like it when I see people wearing the same clothes as me. My style is my own and it defines who I am,” he says.

He loves designer brands such as Paul Smith and Paciotti Italian shoes because they are high quality which he says are most likely to last longer. He says one thing he can’t leave the house without is his Diesel watch.

Williams says his style is influenced by American actor and film-maker, Denzel Washington, who always looks posh. “Every man must have a decent suit and a nice pair of shoes in their collection,” he advises.
