A passion for fashion

After developing a love for fancy clothes at an early age, Mpho Setati (21) of Moletjie, Ga-Matamanyane ventured into fashion designing after obtaining his matric.

POLOKWANE – A young, dynamic designer, he began his own clothing brand, SD.

He enrolled to study fashion at the Art Campus in Pretoria but unfortunately he could not complete his studies due to financial constraints. He did, however, learn several useful tactics during his time there and, determined not to let anything stand in his way to success, began designing and making clothes in December last year.

“My tutors told me that I excel in the industry and encouraged me to pursue the career no matter what. I enjoy what I do, it helps me make an income and keep busy. One of the best feelings is seeing my clients with a broad smile on their face when I present them with the clothes I made for them.

“At the moment I only make clothes for men but I intend to begin making clothes for women in December,” he said.

He added his goal is to become an internationally-renowned designer. He aims to be a role model for others by proving to them nothing is impossible if you work hard enough and to show the country and the world exactly what talent can come from Limpopo.

“I was inspired by David Tlale’s designs to become a fashion designer myself. I use my designs and the industry to express my personality, creativity and talent. I have developed such a passion for the industry that I doubt I will ever do anything other than designing and making clothes,” he added.

He designs and makes a wide variety of clothes ranging from school uniforms to casual attire. His five-year dream is to see his brand become internationally-renowned.

“It is never too late to start doing something you love. Never allow people to tell you that you are incapable of doing something because they will pull you down. With passion and hard work, anything is possible,” he advised.

He is based in Moletjie, Mabokelele and anyone who is interested in obtaining one of his unique designs can contact him at 076 273 0696.
