Explorer Race: a fun way to take in city sights
A day of family fun ensued as more than 30 people, divided into 6 teams, took to the streets on Saturday to explore the city.
POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Explorer Race made for a fun, educational and entertaining day.
Polokwane Tourism Agency Chairperson, Gerhard Franken, said the aim of the race was to promote tourism in the city.
“People must know the sites in their own city. We can’t promote the city if the residents themselves don’t know what it has to offer. We see the race as a fun, informative way to get people to see all of Polokwane,” Gerhard said.
He added the race will be an annual event that will take place in the first week of September. “We chose to host the race in September to coincide with Tourism Month. We hope the race will grow and be even bigger and more fun next year with more teams taking part in the action. This initiative forms part of our “I am Polokwane” project which encourages residents to become ambassadors of their city. We plan to incorporate an even bigger part of the city into the race with more stops, tougher challenges and even bigger prizes,” he explained.
“We would like to thank all our stakeholders for their contributions, along with everyone who took part in the race and making it such a big success,” he continued.
Team Carma Signs team leader, Marina Labuschagne, said it was fun to be part of the first ever Polokwane Explorer Race. “The race was fun, entertaining, educational, and informative. We really want to do it again next year in order to support the Polokwane Tourism Agency. I am happy that we did this race together as a family,” she said.
