A play set to rock the stage

Theatre enthusiasts should not miss the opportunity to catch the heartbreaking play, Fix this thing, on 29 September at the Polokwane Library Gardens Auditorium.

POLOKWANE – Fix this thing is a new drama written and directed by Selaelo Maredi, which focuses on family issues and how people go about fixing them.
Maredi says he wanted to depict the varying social issues people in his community face.
He says people try to solve their issues behind closed doors but emotions often boil over and people’s lives are exposed.
“Fix this thing is a drama about a family that is at the brink of collapse because of internal feuds marked by greed over the family’s possessions and vendettas. Things get out of hand and the family must then work together to restore the peace and rebuild their trust,” Maredi said.
He says our of the cast members are from areas in and around Polokwane, namely Michael Matlala as Robert’s father, Sello Chokoe as Robert, Salome Kutuma as Robert’s younger sister, Monabi and Mercy Legong as Tshello, Robert’s mother.
“The play sees Robert, the last born in the family as a victim of circumstance who distances himself from his family after he becomes a big-time business man living in Cape Town with his wife and children.
The trouble starts when he decides to pay his family a week-long visit after he hasn’t seen or spoken to any of them for years,” he added.
He further says the play is not meant to be didactic or offensive the viewer and adds there is occasional song and dance to lighten the mood.
Tickets will be available at the doors and cost R50 per person and R30 per person (for groups of 10).
