Cansa Relay to support survivors
"This is such a great event, we really need the community to come together and support their loved ones who have cancer" David Booth, CANSA's community mobiliser for fundraising
POLOKWANE – 12 hours of non stop fun is what many people find when they attend the CANSA Relay for Life event which will be happening on 7 and 8 October.
Held every year around the same time, the CANSA Relay For Life is a moving celebration of cancer Survivorship. Survivors from the community are invited to attend the CANSA Relay For Life event as VIP’s, where they are celebrated and honoured through special ceremonies and activities.
Held at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium, survivors are welcomed and acknowledged through the opening Survivors’ lap which starts off the relay. The event is also highlighted by cancer survivors who are guest speakers and share their stories of hope and inspire those beginning their journey with cancer, earning them recognition and respect from their community.
CANSA’s community mobiliser for fundraising, David Booth said although entries were slow at first, more are slowly trickling in and says he is hoping for dozens more to come through before the event in a week’s time.
“This is such a great event, we really need the community to come together and support their loved ones who have cancer,” he said.
David encourages people to enter the relay and take part in something for a good cause. “Please don’t think about yourself, think about who and what you are doing it for and come through and have a great time,” he said.
Entries are still open for the race and you can contact David on 083 655 2678 for more information.
