Mac Mega: behind the scenes

Young producer, artist/rapper from Polokwane, Lemont Mac Mega Shondlani (16), says music allows him to be free and be himself.

POLOKWANE – Mac Mega has 26 singles behind his name, a name he says describes the extra energy and creativity he brings to his music.”I had some people pronouncing my name as “Mac Mega” instead of “M.C Mega,” so I thought why not change it because I was not that well know at that time. As time went by I started loving and it sounded catchy and easy to remember so I stuck with it,” he added.

Originally from Louis Trichard he came to Polokwane with his parents at the age of six. He comleted his priamry schooling at Pietersburg Comprehensive School and is currently attending Florapark Comprehensive High School. After school he seeks to further his studies at University of Pretoria. “I want to study law so I can learn more about the rights of artists in the music business and to assist young artists so they do not get taken advantage of. Sometimes when dealing with contracts and law related things in my music, some producers and record labels tend to take advantage of up-coming artists,” he explained

Lemont was interested in music ever since he was a child but only started taking his love for music seriously when his friends in primary school complimented him on the songs he wrote and the beats he produced. He had his first performance at the age of ten and has never looked back. “I have performed at various events around Polokwane including the Lim Hop Awards 2017, Florapark High School valentines event 2018, Polokwane’s Next Top Model 2018, Knite Show Polokwane 2018, Top Floor Event 2018 and at the Mr and Miss Flora 2018 to name but a few.”

Lemont has also featured local artists such as Mobsta, Psychatic, Nexhy, Anonymars, LavMore, Sleeky jnr and Optimistik on his singles.

“When it comes to school and my music career, I divide my time, I have specific days which I work on my music and I have specific days which I trade currencies. Music is not challenging at all. I just feel free and I’m always myself whenever I’m performing or I’m at the studio,” he said.

Word of advise Lemont gives to other artists is that; “Play less, concentrate on your studies, work more and be yourself because will enable you to do what you actually love without getting tired of it.

Lemont’s next gig will be on Saturday 7 December at The Muse Live 2018. “Be on the look out and come support our local artists,” he concluded.
