Local youth set to lead peers positively
As Moletsi FM Radio Producer and presenter, 28-year-old Daily Koena Moabelo, aka Slender boy, is using his popularity among the community to engage with and assist local teenagers.
POLOKWANE – As an inspirational speaker he often engages the youth to discuss their challenges in life as well as assists them to come up with solutions to those problems. Koena says with the aim of getting teenagers off the streets and engaging in activities that will help mold them into better people he started an organisation called Vibrant Youth.
“The organisation is aimed at bringing the youth in my community together so that they can engage with one another and discuss some of the challenges that they face, as young people, which hinder their progression in life as well as come up with possible solutions to those challenges,” he explained.
He adds that the organisation is doing well thus far as more youth are now participating and problems which need immediate attention are being distinguished and dealt with,” he explained.
Koena says young people need someone youthful and vibrant to look up-to, himself included. Someone who will come down to their level in the sense that he or she will be able to avail him or herself to converse with them in order to have an idea of what they are going through.
“Since my pre-primary and secondary schooling I have been good at communicating with my peers, reaching out to them and getting them to engage which is how I believe I am able to engage with them now. My energetic character as well as self confidence also plays an important role. Most of the youth in my community have low or little self confidence which I believe is a problem as they struggle and are afraid to set goals and work hard towards achieving them,” he added.
He is on Moletjie Fm weekdays during the Afternoon show on (98.6 MHz).
