Local lady finds her passion in designing baby fashion
26 year old, Kiki Bapela believes designing and making baby clothing and accessories is her true calling and purpose in life.
LIMPOPO – The self-taught designer, from Ga-Dikgale a village which is situated about 90km from Polokwane, designs and makes all things baby friendly, from clothes to baby carriers, blankets and lots more and has plans of opening her own baby boutique soon.
Kiki says she has always had a passion for sowing and designing and had dreams of starting up her own clothing business and owning her own brand. “I saw an opportunity for business when my female cousins and their friends would ask me to design and make clothes for their children. From the first little garment I made, I knew my business is bound to grow. My hobby has now made my dream a reality.”
She explains that after making her first baby garment, she receiving calls from other young mothers in her community and surrounding areas, some even via social media, asking her to make them clothes for their little ones.
“I did not even go to school for design and sowing, I believe it is my true calling and purpose in life,” she adds.
She now has her own range called Bao Bao Kids which includes clothing for children (both boys and girls) which range in sizes from new born 24 months. She is set to launch the baby clothing line sometime this month and there after plans on approaching well known clothing retailers to grow her brand and her business.
