Lebogang challenged herself to be an extraordinary make-up artist
Looking up to local self taught makeup artist, Sewela Moshabi from Emdo, Lebogang Sharon was inspired to challenge herself to be more than an ordinary makeup artist.
POLOKWANE – “I grew up loving and enjoying to play with makeup. I just love how makeup is able to transport something ordinary to beautiful. I have been following Siwela for quite some time now on social media and work inspires me greatly. However, I wanted to have a niche as a makeup artist, so as I was doing research, I found out about special effects makeup and then went onto YouTube as in today’s day and age, google and YouTube are our teachers and that is how I learned about special effects makeup,” she explained.
The 21-year-old says she used her self taught skills and God given talent to contribute towards ensuring that messages spread through campaigns such as campaigns about Women and child abuse, alcohol and drug abuse, to name a few be better heard.
“Last year during the ‘No to Violence’ campaign, I did special effects makeup to show my involvement and support for the campaign, to help get the message across and the response I received was positive and inspired me to keep doing what I am doing. It is not only fulfilling but it also contributes towards making a change in the community,” she added.
Lebo says that the type of makeup she does needs a person who is always eager to learn in order to further enhance their craft. She seeks exposure and opportunity through local films as a special effects makeup artist and also getting herself involved in campaigns to promote her work. She dreams of working for a popular television film, soapie, sitcom or dram series in the future.
