Five physically impaired children from the city received specially customised wheelchairs at a Wheelchair Wednesday function at the Association for Persons with Disabilities (APD) Limpopo last Wednesday.
APD Limpopo Director Christa van der Walt said that the wheelchair initiative is an annual event that aims to identify disabled children in need of wheelchairs and to source sponsors to fund the purchase of the wheelchairs. She thanked the sponsors, Limpopo Toyota Knights, Nashua Limpopo and Town Lodge for their support.
Honorary President of APD Limpopo Marina van Eeden said that the joy on the faces of the recipients of the wheelchairs was a priceless experience. “Their caregivers can now move them around and it is no longer necessary to carry them,” Van Eeden said.
