‘Di Chomi’ speaks of Xigubu’s passion

Her music career started years ago when she met a DJ from a neighbouring village.

POLOKWANE – Xigubu’s latest single, ‘Di Chomi ‘celebrates the youth of 1976 by influencing the youth of today to live positively.

Xigubu, whose real name is Tshimolo Comfort Masemola, got her name as a result of her love for singing and dancing. Xigubu translates to ‘drum’ or ‘soundbox’. The 23-year-old from Ga Masemola, released her latest single on 19 June under Mabetha Productions and it was produced by a duo called Asterix Sojat and co-produced by Salmanwa. “The song speaks about life experiences around friends and encourages young people to pursue their passion and dreams,” explained Xigubu.

Her music career began when she met with a DJ from a location close to her village, who later introduced her to Chamza the DJ and Romeo the Chairman, who were just as passionate about music as she was. In 2015, Xigubu recorded her first single, entitled ‘Mavuso’.

In 2017, she recorded another single, entitled ‘Skobo’ with Kalawa Jazmee’s former artists, DJ Buckz and Spirit. Later that year, she moved to Seshego and continued to gain recognition in the music circle.

In 2018, she remixed her first single ‘Mavuso’ with Chomee from 999 studios and it was produced by Arthur Mafokate. This collaboration landed her a record deal with Fathaland Records, and later, her first album ‘Drizzle’.

In 2019, her contract with Fathaland Records ended and she signed with Mabetha Productions, where she released her current single ‘Di Chomi ‘. She is currently working on an album which has sounds that were inspired by the late Brenda Fassie, and Lebo Mathosa.
