Amid a weather forecast predicting a rainy weekend for Thohoyandou, the flooded Thavahani Mall in the town might remain on the itinerary of President Cyril Ramaphosa when he is due to touch down late tomorrow afternoon (Friday) for a programme marking the African National Congress’s (ANC) provincial manifesto roll-out the next day.
At this stage the President’s visit to Thohoyandou is expected to include an early morning walk from the University of Venda early Saturday morning.
ANC Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) spokesperson Donald Selamolela has just informed Polokwane Observer that an inspection of all venues on the Presidential programme would be conducted tomorrow morning and that details about the state of readiness would be disclosed in the afternoon during a presser.
At the time of going to print, more details about the extent of the damage to the mall were awaited from Anne Lovell who is the spokesperson for mall developers Flanagan & Gerard.
Images circulated on social media indicated that vehicles in the parking area of the mall were flooded when the rains came down.
The spokesperson for Thulamela Municipality could not be reached for comment.
