A total of 67 Grade 8 learners were officially welcomed to PEPPS College during the school’s third annual Grade 8 bell ringing ceremony on Monday.
The group had to attend orientation camp and participate at a concert before the bell ringing ceremony. PEPPS Executive Head Annabel Roberts indicated that the bell tower was only built in 2016 but the ceremony has since became a tradition at the school. She further stated that the Grades 1 and 8 ring in while the Grades 7 and 12 ring out
Several speeches were made during the occasion and learners had to take an oath as they pledged to do their best and set a good example followed by the school song. PEPPS College head girl Tumelo Teffo emphasised that Grade 8 learners were all leaders hence they should strive for the best at all times and pay undivided attention to their school work.
Another head girl Munaka Munyai welcomed the group to the college but indicated that they were not welcomed as learners or individuals but as leaders of tomorrow. Grade 8 learners proceeded to the bell tower to ring the bell and later received a standing ovation from all college learners.
