Protest – all calm in Mogwadi, no arrests

Police confirmed on Tuesday that the R521 at Mogwadi was calm and the road open for traffic after protest action by local communities the previous day necessitated the closing of the road.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe indicated that no arrests had been made. Members of the Public Order Policing Unit (Pops) were deployed to Mogwadi and surrounds where protesters who are allegedly upset about road issues barricaded the R521 with burning tyres and rubble since early Monday morning.

It was learnt that protesters also closed the Bylsteel road as well as a road leading to Loskop (Marowe) and that passing vehicles were allegedly pelted with stones.
Pops remained on the scene to monitor the situation.
