Covid-19: Minister of State Security is not happy with the lack of compliance to lockdown regulations

“It looks like the people around the area are not heeding to the call of the lockdown and that is worrisome."

HIGHVELD – Ms Ayanda Dlodlo, State Security Minister, expressed her concerns about how locals are defying the lockdown regulations.

Ms Dlodlo said she will engage with Mr Bheki Cele, Minister of Police, and Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, Minister of Defence, to deploy more law enforcers so that stringent measures to enforce lockdown regulations, will be implemented.

“It looks like the people around the area are not heeding to the call of the lockdown and that is worrisome.”

Ms Dlodlo also announced that various businesses in the area, including Sasol, A & E and Spar, have made donations to be used in the fight against the COVID-19 outbreak.

Sasol donated 400 litres of sanitizer which will be distributed to various areas in the Govan Mbeki Municipal area, including the Kinross Lapa, where about 106 homeless people have been accommodated.

Spar Supermarket has donated food for the homeless and will be doing so for the duration of the lockdown.

Sabers and A&E donated other essentials such as soap, washing powder, bathroom necessities and blankets.

“This is a great partnership between business and government towards the fight against the spread of the virus.

We have to harness our collective energy as society to contain the spread and such efforts are much appreciated.

“Many of our people, especially in poor areas such as eMbalenhle, do not have access to sanitizers to protect themselves and their families.

“This will help.”

She visited the homeless in Kinross and a few families in eMbalenhle.
