BETHAL – The Department of Correctional Services: Bethal Management Area, which includes, Standerton, Ermelo, Piet Retief and Volksrust Correctional Centre, fulfilled its mandate of Employee Health and Wellness Programmes by hosting a Wellness Day at Bethal Correctional Centre on Wednesday.

Correctional officials relieved work stress by embarking on various sports activities such as aerobics, women’s soccer, men’s netball and tug of war.

A number of relevant service providers such as Gems, Dr Zondo (optometrist) and Dr Koali (general practitioner) were part of the event, conducting health screening to 100 officials.

Capitec Bank and Old Mutual were also present to advise the correctional officials about financial management so they can make informed decisions with regards to their financial planning.

The management area’s acting area commissioner, Mr DA Nzimande, encouraged officials to be mindful of their well being and health status, in order to be fit enough to carry the mandates of offenders’ rehabilitations.

“By doing this, the Department of Correctional Services shall achieve its mission of providing just, peaceful and a safer South Africa.”
