Volunteer patrollers recover suspected stolen vehicles

CPF chairman thanks SCF members for working hard to reduce crime.

eMBALENHLE – The initiative of members of the local Community Policing Forum (CPF) and the Sector Crime Forum (SCF) patrolling over weekends is proving successful.

They recovered vehicles last weekend that are suspected to be have been stolen.

The first one was recovered in the Chris Hani Section on 2 November when residents informed them that they suspect the vehicle of being stolen.

The members worked with the police to arrest the suspects.

The other vehicle was recovered in Extension 21 on 3 November when a resident informed the members a few hours after it had arrived.

SCF members worked with the officers from the Secunda Flying Squad to arrest the suspects.

Mr Joseph Mhlongo, chairman of the CPF, attribute their successes to the bicycles and the two-way hand radios which they received from big businesses because they are now able to attend to a crime scene faster.

“We want to build on this success story and will eventually drive the criminal element from the township.

“The patrollers are showing us it can be done and we are proud of them.”

The Echo and the Ridge Times met some of the SCF members patrolling on bicycles in Extension 8 on Saturday, 9 November.

People interested to take part in the forum initiatives, can contact, Mr Mhlongo 076 048 2334.
