The construction of the Mpumalanga High Court in Mbombela is currently underway.
The five-storey court building is estimated to cost the National Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport about R800 million.
The complex will have five criminal courtrooms and six for civil cases. If all goes according to plan, the complex will be completed in two years.
Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe has applauded the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development for the move. MEC Shongwe said this court would assist the Department to improve its case flow to ensure conviction of suspects that is currently delayed by lack of resources. He added that it would minimise the distance travelled by Mpumalanga residents to the Pretoria High Court.
