
KRIEL – A hitchhiker working in Bethal was robbed by two armed men on 11 November.
The men pulled up in a blue Uno and offered him a lift.
They drove onto a gravel road between Bethal and Ogies and shortly thereafter stopped the vehicle.
One of the suspects held the man at gunpoint, while the other one searched him.
They stole his wallet, cell phone, shoes and bank card, all to the value of R1 900.
The men fired several shots as they drove away.
The victim was not injured and seek help from nearby farm workers who took him to the police station.
The police opened a case of aggravated robbery.
“People should avoid hitchhiking and instead use public transport,” the police said
