Children enjoy jumping castles, some for the first time

It is a season of love and giving, not only for family but make a change and give to someone who would not expect something.

STANDERTON – It is the time of year when people rush to get their Christmas shopping done, not giving much thought to children that will go without a meal or a present.

Some children would only ask for something to eat or a mother and a father if a survey were done.

Ms Charlotte Kimmins, president of the Standerton Highveld Festival and her committee, arranged for the children of Potter’s House Worship Centre in Ext 6 to have a little bit of fun, a meal and present before Christmas.

For a change there were sounds of laughter of children enjoying themselves.

The original plan was for them to attend the annual festival where those less fortunate could have a day of fun and just be children.

The show budgeted for a certain number of children and Past Ben Mokoena could not choose among those who should stay and those who could attend.

Ms Kimmins came up with a solution and organised a Christmas party at Potter’s House for those who could not make it to the show.

The main idea was to make them feel they have received something for Christmas.

Potter’s House has a project for less fortunate children where they keep them busy after school and help them with their homework and give them a meal.

More than 100 children attend this facility after school.

“This was the first time for these children to even be on a jumping castle, not to mention receive a gift,” Past Mokoena said.
He also said it was an amazing experience for them.

He thanked the committee for their support and organising the much appreciated event.

“Watching these children enjoy such a small gesture broke my heart,” a committee member said.

One child was so impressed with her gift she went around a corner and took everything out, packed it back in, stood up, walked around a bit, repeated the routine, just to make sure everything was hers.

So many of us take life for granted and do not even think of those who suffer.
