Charged with Bestiality

In South Africa bestiality is a common law crime, with no specific legislation against it.
There have been a number of people convicted for bestiality in South Africa in the past couple of years.
A man in Mahala Park had sex with two goats last Saturday.
The owner of the animals allegedly saw the man with the animals and took him to the police station to open a case.
According to the owner, the police told him that they needed evidence and he decided to call the SPCA.
Ms Poppy Ditibane took the goats to the Standerton veterinarian for a medical check-up.
Dr Frikkie Nel confirmed that the goats were penetrated and their private parts swollen.
The veterinarian said people should report such things to the police.
According to Lt Fanie Nhlabathi, communications officer of Standerton Police, the suspect was arrested and charged with bestiality.
He appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on 25 November.
According to an article published in a national daily newspaper on 25 November, a 21-year old man was arrested and charged with bestiality after he had sex with a dog and he is expected to appear in court.
The SPCA said this is a sensitive matter and cruel for people to do this to animals.
“Where are we going as a nation if we do this to animals,” Ms Ditibane said.
