State wins case against scrapyard owner in Bethal
The owner of an illegal scrapyard has to close its doors after violating several bylaws.
BETHAL – A scrapyard in Schlossberg Avenue must be closed within six months after violating the terms of the Govan Mbeki Land Use Scheme.
Mr Phillip Rudolph Croukamp was fined R5 000 or one year imprisonment and suspended for a period of five years provided that:
* The accused is not guilty of violating section 1.3 of the Govan Mbeki Land Use Scheme, 2010, read with sections 57 (1), (2) and (3), 58 (1) (a) and (b), 58 (2), 133 and 134 of the Town Planning and Townships Ordinance, 15 of 1966 committed after 15 May, 2014 during the period of suspension.
* The accused within six months since the date of judgment permanently halts all activities in Schlossberg Avenue 710 in contravention of the provisions of the said land use scheme.
Mr Henry Masango, head of marketing and communications for the Govan Mbeki Municipality, said: “I am still awaiting reaction from our planning section and will revert back to you once I have all the necessary information.”
