Man killed

A man was hit and killed by a taxi on the R23 road last Saturday evening.
According to a resident in Ext 6, he heard a loud noise and screeching tyres.
“I was on the other side of Ext 6, but heard the bang and ran to see what happened.

” The community found the man’s lifeless body lying in the middle of the road with blood all around him.

The taxi driver called the ambulance and paramedics confirmed the man was dead.

Locals who heard the noise came out to see what was happening.

The man’s body was covered with a blanket while they waited for the police to arrive.

According to the police, the man was crossing the road coming from Ext 6, and the car came from the direction of Johannesburg.

The police suspect that the taxi driver was speeding.

A case of culpable homicide was opened and the driver will appear in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court soon.

No one came out to identify the victim, and he was taken to the hospital mortuary.

His family identified him as Mr Petros Mokoena, who used to stay in RDP, next to Ext 6.
