KRIEL – Competitors gave their best on Saturday, 30 November when the Rietspruit Dam Hebron Club hosted the final leg of the SAPBA hard bottom boat racing.
Mr Francois Heyns, one of the organisers, said preparation for participants already began on Friday to ensure they could find that little bit of speed to get maximum points.
“The day did not go by without incidents,” said Mr Heyns.
Krynauw Brits was the co-pilot for Gustav Brits, his brother, and after a titanic battle for position his boat flipped and Krynauw was rushed to hospital to get some stitches.
In the last heat Billy, in the chasing Boomslang boat with Evinrude 200 HO, was chasing Ernest Tope and at the last turn he also flipped.
His foot was badly cut and he was also rushed to hospital.
Nikita Tromp was the winner in the juniors category while Nico Henrico finished second and Tristen Barham third.
In the L1 category, Ivan Terblanch was the winner and John-Ross Duncan finsished second..
Jock Foster and his co-pilot Hennie Potgiter took the lead in the L2 category and Ernest Tope and Menette Foster won the L4 category.
Bart Henrico and Johan Henrico finished second in the L4 category and Billy Dalgleish and Eben third in this category.
Petrus Whiteman and Ben Greyling won the L5 category while Edwin Dalgleish and Eben finished second and Gustave Brits and Krynauw Brits third.
Charl Nouchlee won the 80-90Hp category and Willie Groenestein finsished second with Nikky Grawam in the third place.
The club hosted its annual prize giving on the same day and Ivan Terblaanche came first in the L1 category with John-ross Dunan in the second place and Anton Brits and Gustav Brits in the third place.
Jock Foste and Hennie Potgieter were the best in the L2 category and Ernest Tope and Menette Foster were the best in the L4 category.
The other best competitors in the L4 category were Bart Henrico, Johan Henrico, Billy Pieterse, Chris Willemse, Billy Dalgleish, Hugo Jansen van Vuuren, Steve Barham and Pieter.
In the L5 category, Petrus Whiteman and Ben Greyling won the prize, with Edwin Dagleish and Eben in the second place and Gustav Brits and Krynauw Brits in the third place.
