Residents are concerned about police visibilty.

Kinross Police Station commander denies that the station is inactive

KINROSS – Residents say Kinross Police Station is inactive and they do not feel safe anymore.

They say seeing a police vehicle in the residential area is a miracle.

Residents are also concerned about a bottle store near the police station.

They say people from that bottle store do whatever they want right next to the police station and the police do nothing.

A resident said: “On Friday, 6 December I nearly died because of the actions of a drunk driver.

“How can people behave in such a manner next to a police station?

“Not so long ago there was a Dewali festival and participants were shooting fireworks in a residential area.

“We could not sleep because of the noise and reported the matter to the police, but they did not bother to do anything.

“If they do not make empty promises, they say there are no vehicles.”

Capt Phil Matlala from Kinross Police Station said: “I doubt if that is true, because we have not received any formal complaints.

“I move around Kinross almost daily.

“About the bottle store next to us, we constantly monitor that place.

“We ask our colleagues from eMbalenhle and Evander to come help us with operations at that bottle store every second night.

“I ask members of the community to come to my office so that we can work together to fight crime.”
