Reservist Const Eliot Magazi appears in Evander Magistrate's Court for helping a man to escape from holding cells.

eMBALENHLE – A police reservist constable will be facing internal disciplinary action soon.

Reservist Const Elliot Magazi (31) is accused of helping a man to escape from the police station’s holding cells last Friday.

The man was arrested for being illegal in South Africa.

Capt Magonseni Nkosi, spokesman for the local police, said the reservist released the man when police officers were locking up other suspects.

He said they noticed that a suspect was missing from one of the holing cells and it was established that the reservist was involved in releasing him.

Capt Nkosi said the man was re-arrested and the reservist appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s Court for corruption and on Tuesday, 7 January for corruption and helping a person to escape from police cells.

He was released on free bail.
